Brick Hill (Nam Long Shan) Hike

Brick Hill (南朗山) also known as Nam Long Shan, is located near Wong Chuk Hang and Aberdeen on Hong Kong Island. It offers panoramic views of Ap Lei Chau, Deep Water Bay, and Repulse Bay. This is a family-friendly hike with slightly older children (not pram friendly). You will climb a lot of stairs during this hike.

Getting Here

Take Exit B at Wong Chuk Hang MTR station and walk towards Nam Long Shan road. You will cross Singapore International School and Canadian International School. The incline is gradual on this paved path and in a few minutes, you will notice a small temple with quite a few statues, and across this temple is a viewpoint overlooking Aberdeen channel.

After you have snapped a few pictures of this viewpoint, a little further ahead is a staircase on your left with a sign for Nam Long Shan Road Rest Garden. Take these steps and reach the rest area, but continue to climb up another flight of steps, till you reach a pavilion at the top.

These stairs are the most strenous part of the hike

Soon you will arrive at the Pavillion. Rest a bit before continuing the walk on the narrow and rocky path that leads to a flat brick plateau. Probably that’s where this hill gets its name from…

We think this should be renamed as called ‘Redbrick Hill’ considering the number of red broken bricks and a shade of red sand on this plateau, but that’s for another day!

The next stop is the three-way junction - on your right is the helipad and on your left is the final stretch of this hike (last set of stairs). Before heading to the top of Brick hill, we recommend spending some time at the helipad and enjoying the panoramic views of Deep Water Bay and Repulse Bay on one side and Ocean Park, Ap Lei Chau, and the South China Sea on the other side.

Head to the final stairway to hell or heaven to get some elevated views. At the top of the hill, there are a few cell towers and control stations. As this is a one-way hike, trace your steps back to complete the hike. We have tried to capture the path on our way back - you can check it on our video.

We hope you found this useful and do share it on your social media channels.
